About
From the President/CEO…
Greetings and Welcome,
Welcome to The Kansas Society of CPAs (KSCPA) website – Welcome valued members, accounting faculty, students, scholarship coordinators and counselors, as well as the general public who look to the members of the KSCPA to provide a variety of quality services.
The CPA is “Your Most Trusted Advisor.”
The KSCPA is a professional member organization founded on October 17, 1932 at the Hotel Jayhawk in Topeka. Most of you know that 1932 was the midst of the depression. Nonetheless, the KSCPA continues to thrive today, adapting over the past 78 years, but always centered with a common vision, core values, and strategic objectives. The landscape of the profession is evolving. The services provided by CPAs continue to expand from the core services of audit and taxation, and what has been a predominantly male profession is becoming a predominantly female profession. The opportunities for CPAs in public practice, business, industry, government, and education are endless.
Our goal is to provide value to our members in the form of government affairs representation at the Kansas Statehouse and on the Council of the American Institute of CPAs, relationships with advocates at the IRS and KS Department of Revenue, young professional events and leadership programs, professional development programs designed to meet the requirements for maintaining a permit to practice in Kansas, administration of the peer review programs for the Kansas Board of Accountancy and the American Institute of CPAs, networking events, leadership activities, affinity programs, and other benefits.
The KSCPA is affiliated with the American Institute of CPAs and works closely with other state CPA societies.
The current mission of the Society is as follows:
The KSCPA is dedicated to implementing strategies that enhance the well
being of our members, the accounting profession and the general public.
As the President/CEO, my goal is to clearly understand the vision of our leadership and to help them delineate and implement the evolving strategies of the organization. I do this with the help of a very capable team of experienced individuals.
The majority of the members in the KSCPA are CPAs who possess a certificate from the State of Kansas or another jurisdiction. Membership in the KSCPA is also available to students and affiliates (those working in CPA firms and under the supervision of CPAs in Business, Industry, Government, and Education).
Generally, once an individual receives a CPA Certificate, s/he becomes a member of a state society, and this membership is maintained throughout his or her career, regardless of whether or not a permit to practice as a CPA is maintained or where the individual is employed. Currently, there are almost 200 Life Members and several individuals who are retired and continue to be active in the KSCPA.
I hope that this helps everyone have a greater understanding of the KSCPA. If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me at mary@kscpa.org.
Best regards,
Mary R. MacBain, CPA.CITP, CGMA
President/CEO
