“As women, we typically bring new tools to a table that has traditionally been surrounded by men representing a common background. One of my best tools is self-awareness. Self-awareness cultivates authenticity which inspires people to join me on the journey to reach new and bigger goals for themselves and others. Achieving big goals demands innovative and deliberate change. People only change due to inspiration or desperation and I choose daily to lead with the former rather than the latter.” – Michele Hamman, CPA, CVA

“Starting a business just two weeks short of your 50th birthday can cause serious reflection on one's abilities. You will hear ‘voices’ saying, whether real or perceived, that you can't do it. At this time in my life, I was intentional about not letting fear make the decision for me.

This mantra of ‘not letting fear make the decision’ has allowed me to coach small business owners by reminding them to always remove the fear from the decision process. You would be surprised how often fear becomes a big decision maker. Replacing fear with real analytics and data always results in better and more accurate decisions.” – Janet Houchen, CPA

Being a female leader in the accounting profession presents a wonderful opportunity to influence and shape the future of the profession.  There are so many different paths to success in this profession and I enjoy helping younger women seek out their interests to become successful in a fulfilling way.” – Angela Malley, CPA, CGMA

The KSCPA and AICPA sponsor the ‘Women to Watch’ Award program which honors outstanding women in the profession. The ‘Women to Watch’ award highlights the accomplishments of women in the profession and demonstrates to emerging female leaders that success is not out of reach. The awards are given in two categories: Emerging Leaders and Experienced Leaders. Emerging Leaders are those women who are up-and-coming stars in their organizations, while Experienced Leaders are those who have established their roles as leaders in their organizations by advancing to the highest levels of management or ownership, and by mentoring those following in their footsteps.

KSCPA and AICPA will be awarding two of these exceptional women accounting professionals (an Emerging Female Leader and an Experienced Female Leader), while honoring all nominees at an awards luncheon celebrating outstanding KSCPA members at the Grand Street Café in Lenexa on Friday, October 4! See who’s won these distinguished awards in recent years.

Thank you to our nominees - you shine in the accounting profession and we look forward to showcasing your accomplishments and contributions to the Society, others around you, and the accounting profession!
