Connecting members, modernizing outreach, investing in future talent, and advocating for Kansas CPAs
The future of the accounting profession in Kansas is full of opportunity—and KSCPA is preparing to meet it. Through our 2026–2027 strategic plan, we’re focusing on the connections, resources, learning opportunities, and advocacy that help our members and profession thrive.
Each year, the KSCPA Board of Directors comes together for a strategic planning retreat to look beyond the day-to-day and consider what’s next. This year’s work centered on a fundamental question: How can KSCPA continue to deliver meaningful value to our members while strengthening the future of the profession?
The answer is a focused, action-oriented plan built around four pillars: Connect, Innovate, Learn, and Advocate. Together, these priorities reflect our commitment to being an inclusive community that connects, innovates, advocates, and learns.
This fiscal year, KSCPA will pursue initiatives designed to strengthen member relationships, expand awareness of our programs, support the next generation of accounting professionals, and advance the profession across Kansas.
This plan is a shared commitment to progress, with clear next steps and accountability to help turn ideas into meaningful results. And while the Board and staff will lead this work, its success depends on the engagement and support of our members, firms, educators, students, and partners.
Here’s what lies ahead.
Our profession is strongest when we learn from one another, build relationships, and create opportunities to stay connected. This year, KSCPA is expanding efforts to bring members and future members closer to the organization and to one another.
Growing the Next Generation of Leaders
The Lead to the Future (L2F) Leadership Program is an important part of KSCPA’s commitment to developing and supporting accounting professionals. Board members will serve as ambassadors for the program, sharing opportunities within their professional networks and referring prospective participants.
By broadening awareness and building a sustainable pipeline of participants, we can help more emerging leaders develop their skills, expand their professional networks, and prepare to make a difference in the profession. Start developing tomorrow's leaders by joining other KSCPA members for a free webinar on Keeping Your Best Leaders: Four Keys to Build a Flourishing Leadership Pipeline, presented by Jon Lokhorst.
The accounting profession continues to evolve, and so must the ways we communicate and engage. KSCPA is exploring new approaches to reach members, prospective members, and partners with relevant information and opportunities.
Expanding Our Outreach
The KSCPA will develop a focused social media strategy to help communicate more effectively in a changing environment. By exploring potential marketing partnerships and bringing together a strategy group, we aim to develop a practical approach to expand awareness of KSCPA and the value we provide.
The future of accounting depends on the people who will carry the profession forward. Reaching students early, supporting educators, and creating meaningful introductions to accounting careers are essential to building a strong talent pipeline in Kansas.
Bringing Accounting Opportunities to More Students
KSCPA will equip Board members with outreach templates, follow-up guidance, classroom resources, and a practical framework for tracking engagement. Our goal is for 75% of Board members to connect with at least two high school or junior college teachers or counselors across Kansas.
These relationships will help expand awareness of the KSCPA pipeline efforts, including the INSPIRE Business Camp, and other programs that introduce students to the possibilities of an accounting career. You can help expand our reach by sharing information on the INSPIRE Business Camp with students, educators and school administrators you know.
One new initiative launching later this fall is CPAs in the Classroom, which will connect KSCPA members to share their passion, knowledge and career journey to help students discover the opportunities a career in accounting offers. Members will be invited to create a speaker profile, and teachers will be able to request speakers for their classroom. Presentation materials will be available for members to use, making this a united effort to promote the profession.
Every conversation with a student or educator is an investment in the future of Kansas accounting.
Advocacy is a defining part of KSCPA’s role and a critical way we support our members, protecting the CPA licensure and ensuring CPAs have a voice at the Capitol. Through our collective voice and relationships, we work to promote a strong, informed, and forward-looking CPA profession in Kansas.
Strengthening Professional Connections
Over the next year, KSCPA leaders will continue conversations that help Kansas stay aligned with developments affecting the CPA profession nationwide. This includes strengthening coordination with the Kansas Board of Accountancy and Kansas Department of Revenue, monitoring professional licensing issues, and keeping members informed as the professional landscape evolves.
These efforts reflect our commitment to ensuring Kansas CPAs have a strong professional voice and meaningful connections with the agencies that affect their work.
Our 2026–2027 strategic plan is a commitment to action, connection, and continued progress. Advocacy engagement, leadership development and pipeline initiatives each contribute to a stronger and more connected profession.
But a strategic plan is only as powerful as the people who bring it to life.
Whether you recommend a participant for Lead to the Future, help us connect with educators, introduce KSCPA to your firm, explore sponsorship opportunities, or share your perspective on issues affecting the profession, your involvement matters.
Together, we can expand opportunity, strengthen our community, and help shape a future where Kansas CPAs—and the profession they represent—continue to thrive.
We look forward to sharing progress throughout the year. Thank you for being part of KSCPA and for helping us build what comes next.
